Q. What are The Facebook Australia Groups Fund grants?

Facebook is providing grants to support Facebook Groups to come together in Australia. Applicants from Eligible Facebook Groups are invited to apply for a grant, to support an Eligible Activity related to that Group.

Q. Are there Terms and Conditions I should be aware of before applying?

Before submitting an application, please read the Facebook Australia Groups Fund Terms and Conditions and the Frequently Asked Questions below. This will assist you when deciding to apply and preparing your application.

Q. When am I able to apply for a grant?

The program will run during 2018, with applications opening on 12 September 2018 and close when Facebook has received 500 applications or at 11:59pm AEST on 1 October 2018, whichever is earlier.

Q. Who is eligible to apply for a grant?

  • To be eligible for a grant, the Applicant must:
  • Be designated as a Group Administrator of an Eligible Facebook Group.
  • Be an Australian resident, and at least 18 years of age
  • Hold an Australian bank account, in the name of the Applicant. Comply with all applicable terms and policies governing the use of Facebook apps and services, including but not limited to the Terms of Service.

Q. What is an eligible Facebook group?

An Eligible Facebook Group is one which is of good standing and engaged in activities and discussions that are anchored on positive impact, rather than demeaning other people, groups, or points of view. The Group must also comply with all applicable terms and policies governing the use of Facebook apps and services.

Q. What is an eligible activity?

An Eligible Activity is one which is based in Australia that requires funding to support the purpose, facilitation and ongoing activities of the Group. For example, the Grant may be used to fund a variety of events, resources, tools and access that empower face-to-face or offline activities of the Group and their members. We will take a variety of matters into consideration, including whether the activity:

  • Builds social inclusivity and support
  • Supports communities from diverse backgrounds
  • Bridges the divide for remote and regional communities
  • Builds connections through sport and recreation
  • Includes the participation of Facebook Group Members
  • Occurs for the betterment of the Group members in Australia and /or the wider Australian community.

Q. How do I apply?

Grant applications must be submitted online through the online application form at www.fbgroupsfund.com.au. Applications by other means will not be accepted.

Applicants may receive acknowledgement of receipt of their submitted application by email.

Q. What is the minimum and maximum amount I can apply for?

Applicants can apply for a grant ranging from AU$500 to AU$5,000.

Q. When do the funds need to be spent?

We ask that grants are expended on the eligible activity by 30 June 2019.

Q. What is the cut-off for 2018 applications?

Grant applications will close when Facebook has received 500 applications or at 11:59pm AEST on 1 October 2018, whichever is earlier.

Q. How many applications can I submit?

We will only consider one grant application per Facebook Group. Should multiple applications be received for a Group, only the first application will be assessed.

Q. What details will I be asked to provide in the application?

The application will ask for information like: your contact information, details of the Facebook Group and your involvement with the Group, how the Group makes a difference in the community, details of the specific activity, resources or tools you are seeking funding for and who the funding would benefit.

Q. Can I attach supporting information such as photos, brochures, testimonials and reports to my application?

All application questions are required to be answered. No additional support information will be required or considered.

Q. How will I know if my application has been successful?

Successful applicants will be notified by email following the application review and assessment, and validation processes.

Q. What validation processes form part of the grant process?

Facebook and/or its third-party service providers may request additional information from down-selected Applicants to satisfy any probity matters it considers relevant in relation to the Applicant, other co-Group Administrators, and the Group itself. Such information may include bank account information, a National Police check and a video / phone screen with Good2Give.

Q. If my application is successful, how will the funds be paid?

Good2Give will administer the distribution of Grants to successful applicants. Grants will be paid directly to the Applicant’s validated bank account.

Q. Do I need to do anything if I have been successful in receiving a grant?

Other than use the funds on the approved activity within the required timeframes, there is no formal reporting requirement, however the Group Administrators are encouraged to post about their activity in their own Facebook Group.

By accepting the program Terms and Conditions, Facebook may showcase the Group and its application for promotional and marketing purposes.

Q. Who isn’t eligible to apply for a grant?

Groups where any Group Administrator or their immediate family are employees or contractors of Facebook, Good2Give (our service provider for this Grant program) or any of their subsidiaries or affiliated companies are ineligible to apply for a Grant.

Additionally, any Groups focused on, or intending to use Grants for the following activities are also ineligible to apply for a Grant:

  1. Proselytizing
  2. Political campaign activities (e.g. on behalf of an active candidate for elected office)
  3. Political lobbying activities
  4. Commercial activities or commercial sponsorships
  5. Capital investment activities
  6. Requests for funding for retrospective activities.

Q. How will my personal information be collected, used and managed by Facebook?

Q. Who are Good2Give?

We have engaged a third-party, Good2Give, to help us administer the grant process, including processing and validating applications and distributing the grant funds to successful applicants.

Good2Give is a not-for-profit organisation committed to building a more giving society, by inspiring and enabling businesses and people to support communities they care about.
